Interesting Ray, I'd buy a book that explained how he parlayed that into the IBD empire he runs today.

If you really want to get him going at one of his seminars, raise your hand (like that character Norm McDonald plays, that asks the obviously dumb questions on SNL...) and ask "But how is IBD really that different from the Wall Street Journal"? <G> Don't get him started on that one!!

The second time I took his 'advanced' CANSLIM seminar (==500 aspiring position traders packed into a Hotel Room in LA for the weekend) about 5 years ago, I asked him to evaluate a position in Alantec (ALTC) that I was holding (everyone had his latest "Daily chart" book)... he was somewhat aghast that I could buy a stock so "extended" (as I recall, it was trading just above it's 20 day MA). I learned a lot in my earlier trading days about reading stocks by studing his chart-analysis techniques, e.g. the concept of reading "overhead supply" on a stock's daily chart. He's good, I have no doubt that the guy is a very dangerous position trader!
