Gwennap writes in conclusion: "If AMD can push Athlon
to 750 MHz in the 0.25-micron process and tune its
SPEC results a bit, the new chip will open a larger
performance gap over Pentium III and have a strong
claim to the seventh-generation title. If not, Athlon
will be competitive with Pentium III but is likely to
fall behind the performance of Intel's
seventh-generation effort once that part emerges

The guy plotted the "performance" chart based mainly
on meaningless "Dhrystone" benchmarks, and even in
this most unnatural environment he found that
there is some saturation in performance "jumps".
How dare he is to assume that the same performance jump
will occur from P-III to WillEverMeet when everything
is pointing out that there is no architectural
resourced left in the Intel arsenal to improve
x86 performance? The Ahlon is already about to
meet his ridiculous "title" definitions while
the corresponding Intel's chip is nowhere on
horizon. All the article is a stupid academical
exercise, no more, no less, IMHO.
