Using an ecn requires a lot more knowledge then placing a market order with a broker. For a lot of investors who lack the knowledge of the characteristics of the individual ecn's it will be the equivalent of going from riding a bicycle to a Harley. This link is one place to begin to get an idea of what a new investor will encounter.
