What no one has so far done is answered KLICKie's original question, to wit:
Will Intel go bust, now that TI have .18 micron technology.

Having just read the press releases on www.ti.com, it does seem quite
impressive. Of course, TI can't actually produce anything with this
technology until 1997 (as the press release says). And there's no telling
what the sneaky Intel scientists can do in THEIR labs, today.

From a business perspective, clearly TI is not going to be able to produce
any chip that will steal business from the Pentium/Pentium Pro in any kind
of volume in the next 2-3 years. It's taking Intel about a year to ramp
onto .28 micron in their newer fabs. The worst case scenario is Intel
paying TI for their technology to produce a 500MHz Pentium Pro, starting
in 1998.

Still, it's only my opinion, and I know nothing about semiconductor
technology, so this is just a stab in the dark for me... Please correct
