There are many forms of wireless networks. For example, here's
an "off the top of my head" two-way terrestrial list:
1) cellular WANs for mobile voice
2) cellular/nodal WANs for mobile data
3) cellular/nodal LANs for mobile data
4) fixed point shared media WANs for last mile data, voice, or video
5) fixed point shared media LANs for data and voice, shared media
6) point to point extension/connection for voice, data, video
7) etc.
MCOM is in 2), in this example. Wireless broadband, as per CMTO's
press release, is 4). This is the market area that is "rebirthing"
yet again, for another go at it. This type of technology space
also looks like a broadband wireless CATV plant, making cable modem
technology readily useful. (There are no standards at this time.)
The type of technology that has been deployed to date by MCOM is
not suited for wireless broadband CATV-like systems.
