What Mr. Gwennap said about the K7 being '7th' generation is quite the enjoyable read. Let me say that AMD is planning on having at least 750Mhz out of the .25 process and quite possibly higher. Also you have to remember what he said about the die size of the K7. Remember where he says something to the effect that "if AMD can achieve this 70% performance increase with such a small increase in die size it is a marvel of efficiency".

This is a very important point to remember. I think the one thing missing from his analysis was the fact he didn't factor in die size to the calculation.

I would have to like have seen the following calculation:

(performance gain * clock speed gain)/die size increase

That would have been much more of a tell metric for the cpu design itself.
