You could argue that fundamentals or leadership position matters in that they tend to rally prior to earnings reports in anticipation of news related to business. Most groups with strong anticipated earnings growth tend to start to move up 4-8 weeks prior to the earnings being released. The exception in April were the cyclical stocks which surprised with their earnings reports and moved subsequent to strong reports by leadership companies.
