Kerry, I accept your interpretation of the need for an operating system to control a programmable digital signal processor (DSP) like that of Texas Instruments, but one point puzzles me. I believe that TI has been making programmable DSPs for a while, yet e.Digital has not (to my knowledge) had any prior dealings with TI. So what other operating systems have the customers of TI been using? I am sure that larger operating systems like Windows and Windows CE could do the job as well, but we all assume that these have far too large of a footprint for music player applications. If I understand the relationship, Texas Instruments would embed the MicroOS into the DSP for file control purposes in the Lucent/TI/e.Digital music player. But I recall an earlier message on this board (#6359) in which Wendy indicated (in a response to a question from Gary Mohilner) that all of the DSPs do not have MicroOS embedded. So back to the question - whose OS is being used in those other DSPs? This is a pretty critical element in the valuation of EDIG.
