Some past crashes have been linked to single events. It could be a number of events that help to lead up to that one event, but that one event, the final straw could be what makes it happen. Remember October 1987? It was the failure of the United Airlines buyout that brought down an overpriced market. This time, I think the nets might crash when it becomes apparent that the year over year earnings growth cannot continue. Fourth quarter 1998 was great, especially compared to fourth quarter 1997. But when 4th quarter 1999 is announced and it is only 20-30% over 1998, I believe people will begin to ask, why does this stock have a high 3 digit P/E? And when they begin to ask that question.... Again, just my guess.
