Road Runner passes 320,000 customer mark
HERNDON, Va., July 13 (Reuters) - Road Runner, a high-speed online service jointly owned by Time Warner Inc.(NYSE:TWX - news), MediaOne Group Inc. (NYSE:UMG - news), Microsoft Corp.(Nasdaq:MSFT - news), Advance/Newhouse and Compaq Computer Corp.(NYSE:CPQ - news) on Tuesday said it surpassed the 320,000 subscriber mark and its network could now reach more than 10.4 million homes.
The company also said it named Trey Smith former Compaq Computer Corp. vice president of advanced consumer products to be its chief technology officer and senior vice president of engineering. He also served as chief technology at Compaq, the world's largest market of personal computers.
Road Runner said its largest cluster of subscribers continues to be in the northeast region. A data and operations center located in Chelmsford, Mass., serves about 70,000 subscribers in 124 towns in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
The company said service will eventually be able to reach more than 30 million cable homes nationwide.
