Kap,

<This will add cost and latency to Camino systems at the time when they will need every bit of both to compete with Athlon.>

That is probably more an issue for the RMBS folks than Intel or AMD folks but they live in a different world and I ain't going there. Now, getting back to AMD. Here is my take on the good, bad, and the ugly from the INTC press release and conf call from an AMD long view point:

First the bad news:
- Profusion is this Q. Good news for Intel and not good for AMD. I don't have much confidence in Shriner based on his track record and I wouldn't be surprised if Hotrail doesn't have anything shipping for another year. AMD better work with some one with a little bit more history on delivering stuff to be on the safe side. And, as long as Intel can count on Xeon margins (especailly in those juicy mult-processor segment), they have the means to squeeze AMD. AMD needs something in that space ASAP.

Next the good news:
- The drop in INTCs ASPs and profits, especially in the IABG coupled with the commentary about increasing margins, most likely, means pricing will get better in the mid-range. I expect Intel to continue to have a very aggressive low end pricing to inflict as much hurt as possible on Via/National.

Now the best news of all:
- Wilamette is now 2000 or more like 2001 product (Otellini said something to this effect). Some of the rumors I have heard about the program might be true. Regardless of the accuracy of the rumormill, AMD'ers couldn't ask for more. Assuming August launch, Athlon is likely go uncontested as the performance leader for a good **year and a half**. Intel has served up CuMine and Wilamette delays on a silver platter.

For a change, AMDs future is completely within AMDs hands.

Good luck,
Chuck
