Fernandes and I used to beat up on the operational guys (Alberthal included) to keep SG&A under 4% so that we could be competitive on new business. Alberthal delivered and ran a very tight ship. When I heard Fernandes make statements in the quarterly conference calls to the effect that 11% SG&A was an industry accepted load it just blew my mind. But I have never had to run a $14B business as a CEO so maybe there is a strong case for term limits on senior management.
