Re time to bail, yes I meant short term. My order is already placed to sell tomorrow morning. But long-term I think writedowns are great. Sometimes they are a bad omen because they show the company made poor investments, but otherwise writedowns just serve to set them up for better profits in the future. I suppose I should buy in again before the next quarterly report.

Geac reminds me a bit of Glenayre (GEMS - Nasdaq), a pager manufacturer. Glenayre isn't as strong a company as Geac, but still I think the market's overreacted to writedowns and short-term problems there.
