Mornin Pat.
The direction of Dell becomes clearer now. Not buying companies yet nor being bought out. Associations with quality names to benefit both. Dell outside, Intel and IBM inside.
Despite all the new construction, Dell still too busy producing
high end stuff and elected to approach the low end by contracting
out the assembly to Dell standards. Will add huge numbers to the unit growth when project is underway. Will be going after the schools
market now with complete low cost systems to utilize the broadband capabilities more available where most schools are located.
(Consider the ineffiencies of trying to teach a computer class
of 20 students when they have to download stuff incoming at
26400 K max)
Schools always on a limited budget and cost concious and need
quality, durability. Watch out Apple. Dell can easily double and triple sales there and still not be #2 in schools
Put Dells activities all together- more high end entries,
huge notebook sales, brand new low end production, free internet
access for some countries, Premier pages, Gigabuys, financing and leasing. Brazil, Tennessee, Sheeeeeesh - Dell may return to its old ways and become the "next Dell".
With all thats going on, Dell does not have the time, the people nor the inclination expand its service section at this time and will
continue to contract it out to quality companies. Dell already has their own service people on-sight at its major buyers, as I recall they had 29 people at Boeing back in 1997. But Dell does not brag about that area. The pride of IT workers at Boeing and Shell etc
demands they do most of their own work. With access to Premier
pages, they have a reduced need to call in any Dell support people.
Its all part of Dell being the "low cost provider"
Many people are now saying that Dell's growth will be in the 30's
Those people have been seriously wrong in the past and will
probably be wrong again.
Gee, I may begin to sound like Kemble here, but hes probably
getting ready to board an airplane heading out of town and could use some help. (G)
Sig ( who is enjoying Intc's performance after several analysts tried to beat it (and Dell) down)
