Oh no!

He federalized the republic. This allowed regulations to be created (avoiding laws which could be challenged in courts)and applied to the states superseding state laws and rights. Many of these regulations diminished or subverted the Declaration of Independence, The U. S. Constitution and The Bill of Rights. Jefferson was a strong opponent of federalization. The Whiskey Rebellion, defused by the Swiss, Gallatin, was one of the stronger "counter-revolutions" against the new American government's intention to regulate and tax the men who had laid their lives on the line to gain freedom from some of the things the federalists wanted to impose upon them again.
