Dear Slob:Silicon Germanium is being investigated by many: it has the high speed high electron mobility characteristics typical of GaAs but
exhibits considerably lower voltage breakdown. Its doubtful that it would be used in Power Amps. It may have greater application in high
speed logic: the kind of stuff that VTSS makes. A more promising technology for PA's is Indium Phosphide/Indium Phosphide GaAs. But this technology (as SiGe) is at the research stage, and it will be another 3-4 years at least before we see any InP fabs come along. I Wouldn't doubt that all the GaAs companies are watching InP carefully and have their own R&D going on. GaAs semis are so hard to make and suffer contamination so easily that everyone is searching for alternatives.
Any company with a InP breakthrough should be watched/JD/
