This is definitely a media show. It is being done just like the V3 where all the information is given out and a date is set for the information to be made public. I feel certain it is a general media event with magazines, netzines, and analysts all invited. I certainly don't think they will use someone else's hardware to show demos, but I also can't see the point of a big media event if you're not going to announce a product. This is a bit much just to counter the Nvidia "T&L" demo from a few days ago.

Maybe they're going to demonstrate what a full OpenGL ICD would look like if it were available. ;-)
