hey eagle,

one of these downloads should be just what you want...

"Story: Fine-Tune Windows With Five Hot System Tray Utilities [Anchordesk, 05-11-98]"

zdnet.com

as for, "I'll admit that fiddling with the registry scares the hell out of me"... the utility we've discussed here recently, startup manager2.0, makes things very easy. a good 'readme' file, and a simple interface. and if you backup your registry prior to making any changes you've taken giant steps towards minimizing your risk, imo. funny that you should be mentioning icq in regards to your systray. i had no icq icon there, but some portion of the program was in my startup folder, and startup manager showed that to me and made it a breeze to eliminate. plus, i could turn right around and put it back if for some reason i needed/wanted to.

to answer your last question, yes, the systemworks tips come from the same place as the win95 and netscape tips.

"I swear, I feel like I'm getting dumber as times flies by...hahaha!"

<g3> probably not. you're probably becoming increasingly aware of all the stuff you don't know, and it just feels like dumber. it's actually a step along the path to smarter, imo!

:)
