Thanks for the clarification.

If I have a cable connection and sharing turned off, how do I stand security wise against DSL? More, less, equal and does a hacker on the net have less or more of a problem breaking into a DSL or cable connected user? Does a cable user/hacker have an easier time breaking into his neighbor's computer on the same cable headend (sharing off)than into anyone else on the net?

Can you protect yourself other than keeping sharing turned off on a cable system? Can you setup a router and firewall an a cable connection?

I am not for or against cable or DSL. In 1995 I had DSL lines running on dry wires and was a rabid advocate of DSL when no one knew what I was talking about. I just think that people should understand that the connection in and of itself does not not offer security or better bandwidth. It is just a pipe.
