SOCs - know somebody who's involved with an SOC design at one of the big European semi houses. Initially it was going to be a 0.25um design, but according to him, they had many problems due to tools not accurately modelling the process for surface effects at 0.25um or smaller levels.

They've been going at it for the last two years now and still getting no-where. He agreed that this SOC thing is not a piece of cake. Can't just say go into it and get chips 6 months later. Or in this case, two years later.

LSI is really at the high end alright. Let's hope they can turn all this IP into profits and stock price.
