RLGough, Probably what it means is that his brokerage has instituted "special" margin requirements for YHOO. Schwab raised YHOO (and most other net stocks) to a 50% margin requirement, some brokers have even gone as far as requiring 100% reserves against the positions. They have legitimate concerns about being left holding the bag by some of their customers during a correction. However, my response was to close my Schwab account!

The classic definition of "restricted stock" is different through... that means you are restricted from selling the stock during certain windows under Reg. 144... usually applies to stock granted to insiders through stock option programs, etc. Restricted stock has to be sold with extra paperwork, filings, abiding by different SEC rules than a normal stock sale. I don't think that pertains to your buddy though.
