Indonesia/Geologist's Body -2: Body In Poor Condition

Dow Jones News Services

JAKARTA -- Indonesian rescue teams in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, reported Monday that they found the body of Bre-X Mineral Ltd.'s (BXMNF) chief geologist Michael de Guzman at about 12:30 p.m. EST (0530 GMT) Sunday.

The body was found roughly 180 meters from the location where helicopter pilot Edi Tursono said de Guzman jumped while in transit last week from Samarinda to Busang, the
sight of what is believed to be one of the world's largest gold deposits.

Sugianto, the head of Samarinda's Search and Rescue team, said that hopes of moving the body on Sunday were frustrated by a lack of equipment and bad weather. Sugianto also is the head of the Samarinda airport.

He said that the plan Monday is to move the body to Samarinda's hospital at about 3:00 a.m. EST (0800 GMT), where an autopsy can take place. He added that de Guzman's body was in bad condition as a result of the 800-foot fall from the helicopter and the marshy conditions of the terrain.
