"where to next?" On a good day like today it's easy to believe that this can go on forever. But we all know that eventually comets and rockets come to a sad end.

Some food for thought. In the May 22nd. issue of "THE ECONOMIST", on page 68 is an article entitled, "Flat Panels, Fat Profits" I'm not a subscriber so I have to use the library.

Some highlights of the article were that:
Sales of Flat Panel Displays last year were $5.5 billion, and this year they will reach $10.0 billion. Next year sales are expected to double again.

More importantly, it said that next year sales of equipment for the manufacture of Flat Panel Displays would exceed the sales of equipment for the manufacturing memory.

Could this explain whey semi-equipment stocks are rising in spite of falling D Ram prices?. It has been postulated on this thread by persons (who have many letters after their names) that falling DRAM prices did not bode well for the semi group.

Now Mr. Morgan of AMAT, and the CEO of NVLS did mention that Korea, and Taiwan, were picking up nicely. Could this be related to a huge expansion in the FPD market?

The article did go on to say that the only well known firm (to us) was Philips (PHG) and that they had $1.2 billion in sales in FPD's this year.

My question is this. What companies in the semi equipment group sell equipment for FPD's? My limited information would lead me to two companies. COHU and PHTN. Do you Ian know of others?

I suspect that some investment in this area would be worth a second look.
