Brian, It could be that the reason that AMAT and LRCX exited the FPD market was a matter of timing. This market is materializing two years late. It was probably strictly a business decision of where to allocate resources.

Consider the following analogy. Stripper oil wells were sold off too cheaply when crude was $11.00 a barrel. Now with crude at $18.00 those well are are highly profitable (because they are low maintenance).

In some matters ( rocketry, horse racing and sex)timing is everything.

This thread does get more lively on good days.
