I had it performed, on the right eye in March.......the older way. Rather quick, but long term healing was a bear.

What they do there is burn through the Epithelium, I believe it is called. The epithelium is somewhat like a epidermal layer but on the eye instead on on the arm....for example.

Now, the problem there, is that although quick and dirty the eye takes quite some time to heal. Sort of like sand in your eye because everytime you blink you run over the unprotected eye until it re-creates the epithelium.

The other eye was done using the LASIK....I suppose that is how it is spelled.

The first eye, although it took 3 months....went from 7 and change diopters or roughly 10/400 vision to 20/25 plus.

The left eye was done on Thursday, July 1. Using the LASIK, it took much longer.....somewhat scarier. I would suggest that you only use a doctor that you have trust in. I have used mine for twenty years.

It did occur to me during procedure that I could not have done this with anyone from a phone book.

By the way, during the first procedure ....not using LASIK....on the Right eye...there was an odor of burning flesh. This did NOT re-occur using LASIK on the Left eye.

Now, the LASIK takes much longer. During the surgery without LASIK you can see the entire time...my experience with LASIK was that as they cut the epithelium I lost vision...temporarily.

In any event. the upshot of the LASIK was that by the next day I went from 10/400 to "better than" 20/50.

So I now have 20/25 plus in the one eye, 20/50 plus in the other. I get another checkup in August.

Although another on SI...."V.", who has exchanged notes with me seems to get these "starbursts" at night and such I do not have any such effects. I think that roughly 5 of 8 people do not experience such.

After wearing glasses Full Time for 40 years....I am 48...I now buy reading glasses at the pharmacy. (Opthamologist's recommendation).

I have no problem, although I see others on this list do, with bright lights....I'm typing this without glasses under a halogen light....I do still awake looking for my glasses and after 40 years I am still amazed, almost each hour, that I am not wearing any.

Cost was $1915 per eye, $5 for the reading glasses,

...and I got the coolest pair of sunglasses for $135.

Hey....before I had to spit out 3 Bills for the frames. 2 for the prescription.....and on and on....

Now I duke them a buck 35 for sunglasses because I feel like it.
NOT, because I have to....

PostScript.

People think I am much younger.....I think they peg me for 47.

Who am I to tell 'em the truth?
