From todays WSJ...Robin Abrams turned a few heads with her sudden exit from 3Com Corp.'s high-flying Palm Computing division for the No. 2 job at Chemdex Corp., an e-commerce broker for laboratory supplies.
But 3Com's stock is down more than 25% since Mrs. Abrams's hiring was announced in early February, rendering her options worthless. At Chemdex, she gets a fresh start, with 250,000 options at $10 a share, the price at which Chemdex expects to go public. Moreover, she won't have to suffer the traditional indignity of start-up life: a paltry salary. The veteran of Apple Computer Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co. is being paid $300,000 a year, $100,000 more than any other Chemdex officer, according to a government filing. She also received a $50,000 signing bonus, and is eligible for up to $80,000 in annual performance bonuses. Chemdex officials declined to talk about the pay package, as did Mrs. Abrams. |
