Hello Pruguy,

I just wanted to comment on your questions about the IceCast announcement that Stang posted ...

I believe that IceCast is targeting a much different market - that of Internet radio stations. Real seemed to be born around clips, and some continuous broadcasts (yes ... I have been a user of Real since RealAudio v1.0) but what seems to be evolving now in the Internet is the ability for *anyone* to become a broadcaster of quality programming. Nullsoft/SHOUTcast (now AOL) and IceCast have really started a spin where a free server can enable a broad range of Internet user to become Internet broadcasters. This is a huge step forward ... and can be seen if you visit the live365.com web site. These are all new, high-quality Internet radio stations. I listen all day and night. Maybe not the variety of music that some of you might be interested in ... ;-)

As for QuickTime, it appears that Apple is really going to push hard. They are still the leader in the content creation tools, and they are now going to push into this space with tremendous effort. They have a very good technology ... and they have decided to compete. I believe that the signal I'm looking for will be the *big* sites that start to support QuickTime format ...

This war will be about content ... how much content is on the net in what format. Remember that Real only has a 3-4 year lead in getting content ... if Apple keeps pushing and makes it easy enough ...

Still long RNWK ... I know there is enough market to go around ... ;-)
