My take on the Brocade news release is that it simply legitimizes the entire Fibre Channel market, and especially the advantages of a switching fabric. Clearly, a Fibre Channel hub will not scale well enough for high-end applications. Brocade's switch sounds really nice, and is certainly competitively priced, but it doesn't do Class 1, and won't do FC/AL until later this year. This should give Ancor time to introduce their next-generation switch, which does do Class 1, and does do FC/AL.

I also thought there were blatant errors in the release. They made it sound like Brocade was the ONLY player in the FC switch area, and that the lack of Class 1 (connection based) was a feature.

All in all, a good job on the press release (as always). Hopefully, this will cause others to pay more attention to Fibre Channel.
