Rajala, I agree with a lot of your post, especially, the statement that the Iridium birds are not going away. They're up there, they're staying, and someone will find a way to sell service through them, quite likely at a price well below even Irid's newest prices. This will put pressure on G* and it's SPs to lower prices.
But, frankly, isn't that what Maurice and a lot of others here want? One real competitor is a lot more effective pressure on prices than a hundred virtual investors on SI providing marketing advice. The best way to find the market's price, is to have at least two providers fighting it out for every buyer.
IMO, a lot of institutional buyers will buy faster, and in greater volume, if they have multiple sources. Large buyers hate having single sources...
So, Iridium and G* will have a price war, customers will have a choice, and a lot of phones and minutes will be sold at a market-efficient price. Maybe that price will be low enough to convince ICO it's better off to resell the HS601s its bought to GEO users than going ahead with a competing MSS system. |
