If your an institution and you have written call options against a large portion of your position (i.e., you expected the market to sell off by this Friday - especially if you expected some earnings disappointments), it is in your best interest to apply selling pressure in the market to protect your core positions that underlie the calls you wrote, depending on what Strike Prices you sold them with.
