Man, you are stuck. I was referring to Scrapp's comment on Micron not selling 2x modems with their PCs. 2x modem is not necissarily US Robotics.

1. Not all modems are software upgradable.

2. If you have been paying attention to the development of 2x modems, the 56K standard is currently a prorpiertary standard from US Robotics. Not everyone purchases this brand of modem.

<Well perhaps the in-significant (the majority) can benifit. I could say the majority can't take advantage of the older V.34 standards also, no? Yes, this is the case also. Any metro area will most likely support X2 well. Many rural areas will not, nor will they support 33.3, 28.8, or even 14.4 in some (few) cases.>

<That's nice.:-) For that matter the tides are affected by the moon, and the stock market is know to follow trends.>

I get t he impression that you have never supported modem users or used a modem in many different circumstances. The support of the current crop of modems does not necissarily depend on location of modem such as "city" or 'rural". It all depends on the quality of telephone connection whcih can even vary connection to connection. I have foundusers in both city and rural areas to have trouble benefitting from 33.3K modems. I have rarley run into users who have obtained consistently a 33.3 or even a 28.8K connection. Please reread my post here.

And yesd, time of day and even tenperature is a factor. Here in Tucson, Arizona during the summer, only 24K connections with the ocoassional 26K connection are possible. During our winter here, 26 and sometimes even 28.8K connections are possible.

Had a bad day???

You are certainly agressive with you reply considering that it is evident you really do not understand the real world issues related to modems and supporting end users that use modems.

Next time, consider the possability that the person you are replying to may actually know more about the subject than you do. With this possability in mind, you may actually learn something that may surprise you. At the very least, you would keep yourself from looking silly in from of perhaps hundreds of people out there reading you post that may also be much more experienced than you.

<Butt (punn intended) you opinion has to smell worse than everyone elses.>

Jeez, how old are you?????
