If you think Paul knows what he is talking about, then you do not know modems. I have supported sites that handled up to 10,000 dial in customers and was a system manager that supported a 4,000 dial in users from in inside and outside the country on a computer network that spanned the country between eight different sites.
Lets not allow freandship get in the way of recognising when someone is in error. I can tell this is where you are coming from because in one line you are pointing to the "old" 14.4K modems as not being upgradable (we both know this is also true with some brands of 28..8Ks out there), and in the same statmenet where you mention that "all" modems are upgradable, you say "when ROK et al gets their act together, then theirs will be too". The "here and now" is what needs to be dealt with, not "all modem...sometime in the future...will be upgradable".
When you want to discuss modems in their rea-world use, I definitely would be interested in contributing. Otherwise, I will leave you to your clique here.
