Thu 15 Jul 99 News Release
Mr. Del Steiner reports
Idaho Consolidated Metals has acquired approximately 700 acres by staking
an additional 35 claims near Stillwater, Mont. The claims are six miles
east of the main stem of the Stillwater River in the Stillwater complex in
Montana.
This block of 35 claims is adjacent to the claims staked earlier by ICMC
(NR9911) and is also adjacent to claims patented by Stillwater Mining
Company along the JM reef in the area of Black Butte Mountain and Fishtail
Creek. The property adjoins Stillwater's patented ground on the east side
and crosses Fishtail Creek. The claims cover up to 2.5 miles of the
projected extension of the JM reef, predominately under glacial gravels.
The projected strike of the JM Reef is bounded on the southeast by a
southerly dipping thrust fault and is in contact with a granitic intrusive.
The 26-mile-long JM reef is host to the Stillwater mine operated by
Stillwater Mining Co., which according to Stillwater's 1998 annual report,
produced 450,000 ounces of platinum and palladium in 1998.
With the inclusion of this fourth block of claims ICMC increases its
exploration potential in the Stillwater complex, which hosts the only
primary producer of platinum and palladium in North America. This property
will complement ICMC's previously announced three major properties in the
Stillwater complex, two of which are approximately 13 miles to the
northwest along the strike of the PGE mineralization. The two properties to
the west comprise the Chrome Mountain and Picket Pin properties held by
ICMC. The Picket Pin is a known platinum and palladium horizon parallel two
miles north of the JM reef. ICMC's claims control 12 miles of the Picket
Pin strike.
Although the three properties are not contiguous, they were carefully
selected based on geologic criteria to maximize the potential for PGE
mineralization. This staking brings the total number of claims in the
Stillwater complex to over 600. An exploration program consisting of
mapping and sampling along the favourable horizons has commenced and
results will be released as they come available.
