Greater Fool,

Re:" Well, I was talking about a full system and I was exaggerating. I'm saying I think the Athlon prices will decline very, very fast. Athlon will very quickly become AMD's only processor and AMD will have to sell out the fabs. I'm betting that in order to sell out those fabs (remember, they'll be including Fab 30 before much longer), AMD will have to drop ASPs. A lot"

I tend to agree with you - except with the timing.

My guess is Q2 2000 is when they can crank 3-6 millions/Qtr.

At that point pricing could be bloody.

Many folks have speculated that the AThlon without L2 cache will be their low cost chip.

It would have low cost~$40 (in a socketed version) and spectacular Mhz (key for consumer market) with > Celeron performance.

They should be able to get $80-100 for these all day long while giving Intel fits.

And remember by Q1 dual K7's ~ with larger L2 caches ~ should start appearing in the server space as well.

My guess for blended ASPs for AMD starting Q2 2000 would be in the $150-180 range.

Regards,

Kash
