Best guess - if the S&P add date is the 21st (and, I am assuming that means 9:30 A.M. on the 21st), then the deal would be priced late on the 20th, to be offered first thing on the 21st.

Jon, this sounds very reasonable. Gawd, I actually feel stupid to be sitting on an extra $10K cash in my brokerage account that could be in Q right now...and even more stupid that the words "dilution" even crossed my mind earlier this week.

Here's a similar opinion from a good poster on Yahoo:

Let's postulate that management wouldn't be stupid enough to report poor earnings, and conduct a downbeat conference call, immediately prior to a stock offering. Let's postulate that management is smart enough to figure out that a STRONG earnings announcement and a POSITIVE conference call would likely take the stock significantly higher.

Since the Index funds HAVE to buy the stock, regardless of price, in order to prevent deviation from the index, a higher Qualcomm stock price means more dollars in the company's checking account and there really isn't anything that the index fund managers can do about it.

I should go enjoy co-investing with a genius like Irwin Jacobs. I sure would hate to be short the stock!! EAL
