The ability to re-invest your profits into another vehicle such as the Q without the immediate tax hit is a great advantage of the tax deferred accounts. Up north here there is one disadvantage however in that the profits built up in the tax sheltered account will one day be liquidated (maximum age 69 with our rules) and taxed at the higher rate allocated to "income" as opposed to the more favourably treated capital gains, which are realized in the taxable account.

Not sure if this is similar for US based investors. In any event, presuming a long horizon before one has to wind up the sheltered account, the ability to change money to a new investment is a real bonus. I am faced with this dilemma now. I've held CSCO since spring 97, and have a 5 bagger. Would love to sell and divert more to QCOM but would be punished by capital gains taxes up here(significantly more than south of the border). Makes taking a profit exceedingly difficult.

Am looking forward to tomorrow's Q action. Have placed a bid to add again. I think this can be attributed to Lindy's Russian Army theory, although I must admit I am more diversified than he, holding PMCS, NTAP, JDSU and WCOM and CSCO as my other primary positions.

By the way, thanks for your efforts on our behalf with QCOM earlier in the week. I still think the company's intentions could have been telegraphed a little more clearly.
