You are wise to restrict this position to prose. In poetry, the ability of the poet to sing disgusting or hateful ideas in beautiful and unforgettable ways sometimes overcomes the moral judgment of the reader or listener. "The Song of Solomon" hardly belongs in a religious book. Kipling's "Recessional" and other chauvinistic, imperialistic verse are impossible for a lover of poetry to resist. The list goes on. "Die Wacht am Rhein", "Marseillaise", .. "Dixie". My favorite of this patriotic trash is "Good Old Rebel."
