Godrej looks to restructure

The Rs 9 bn Godrej Soaps is said to be in talks with a host of soap and personal care giants for restructuring its operations.

Godrej Soaps to Restructure its organization set-up.
Mumbai, 5th April, 1999

Godrej Soaps Limited, the leading manufacturer of soaps & toiletries in India, has announced a major organisational restructuring programme under which the varied business activities of the company are being bifurcated into two separate divisions, to be headed individually by a President.

One division will be the ‘Consumer Products' division, to be headed by Mr. Hoshedar K. Press. This division will be responsible for the manufacturing, marketing, sales and exports of the soap and toiletery brands of Godrej Soaps such as Cinthol toilet soaps and Godrej Hair Dyes.

The other division will be the ‘Chemicals' division, to be headed by Mr. Mathew Eipe. This division will be responsible for the manufacturing, marketing, sales and exports of the various chemical products of Godrej Soaps such as fatty acids, fatty alcohols, AOS and glycerine.

The previous structure of an independent ‘Product Supply Organisation' providing the products to the marketing operations has been dismantled. The manufacturing and marketing functions would in the future work together as one team.

Announcing this, Mr. Adi B. Godrej, Managing Director, Godrej Soaps Ltd. said, "This restructuring has been implemented with a view to streamline the Organisational Structure and enhance Business Performance. The synergies resulting from this change would help us in improving profits, as well as, the market shares of our brands. "

This restructuring comes into effect from 1st April, 1999.
