(OT) Lee, Hope your Compaq notebook's working now. As a beginner I've been looking into computers, trading software, etc. Have found your postings informative and I love your humor. I'd bought a Compaq notebook earlier, but returned it after repeated minor problems and frustrating attempts to get help through Compaq. Then I did a search through computer reviews in PC magazine, Consumer Reports, and other publications. Unfortunately, many computers have deteriorated in quality, and a significant number arrive DOA or fail shortly afterward. Compounding this is that warranty service has worsened, with many consumers reporting long delays in service responses and in quality of repairs. This situation has become particularly bad with laptops, with only Dell receiving an "A" for reliability and service, and Compaq a "C". If you get your Compaq runnning, one suggestion I've read is to leave it running for a few days before your return privileges end-and that situtation is also not good since some stores now allow only a 14 day return period, and some charge a restocking fee, such as Comp USA-since most problems occur early. Good luck.
