Sam, thank you much for your detailed discussion! You asked for comments on... they said (at different times, in different contexts) that no one who is not vertically integrated can hope to compete successfully long term on either the high end or the low end. This is a question which we have debated on this thread, and I would ask anyone who has read this far to throw in their 2 cents on whether they believe it. Whatever a company decides - to vertically integrate or not - is thought best at the time they do it. I would be presumptuous to second-guess from a distance. These decisions require much more detailed input than any of us can muster. Two companies can come to opposite conclusions, each making sense in context. Gottfried
