The whole Southeastern portion of the Big Island is called Puna.
It is a District, not a town. I live in Lower Puna near the shore and most Easterly point at Kumukahi. It's my Pu'uhonua.
I quit inhaling years ago, but that area has been renown for its Pakalolo production for sure, a real ‘budding' business.
I grow Bee's, Papaya, Avocado, Lemon, Lime, Orange, Tangelo, Pineapple, Tomatoes, Plumeria & other flowers, Coco Palms, etc.
There are some real characters in the Puna region. I like the relaxed & easy going nature of the people around here, and it's not cause there all stoned<g>, I like the diversity.
We live in a global world now more than ever and IMO we need to not only accept that the world has many different kinds of peoples, cultures and customs, but also embrace these differences and heal the years of geographical, cultural and religious fear of the ‘different'.
The level of some of our society's conditioned prejudice is astounding to me.
Is this too heavy for this thread?
Those that surround themselves with only the ‘safe' and like themselves crowd may be missing the richness others have to share and also furthering the usually misplaced fear of ‘different'.
What is my skin color, my religion, my heritage???
The Internet is one major way our global community is manifest.
The inherent personality, a persons essence has a chance to be expressed and received without so much of the pre conditioned judgment that we may use with visual bias.
Oh, I suppose even on-line here some are ready to go “ah ha! I knew they were (not of my kind)”, its right there in the…last name, that mention of religion, sexual preference, job title, geographical location, the way they repeatedly omit words in a sentence….
The government's we each live under are not who WE are, anymore than our geological location is, influential, but not us.
Here on-line we have a chance to represent ourselves and share our differences and learn from each other, support, and even help each other make some money in the Market
We are in a global family now and I embrace that diversity, I have close friends around this entire Planet Earth, and I like that.
