Democrats Move to Dissolve Two Branches of the U.S. Military

WASHINGTON, DC - Democrats on Capital Hill introduced legislation today that seeks to completely eliminate two branches of the United States armed forces. Said Senate Minority Leader, Tom Daschle, "The conflict in Kosovo has shown us that conventional military wisdom is outdated. Now that we know that it is possible to win a war using air power alone, it is time for us to dissolve those branches of the military that deal primarily with ground troops."

The legislation which is being called "The Clinton Doctrine Military Update Act of 1999". If passed it will end funding for the U.S. Army and Marine Corps. Most of the funds that would have gone to these two branches will be divided up between the Navy and Air Force. The remain portion will be used to establish and train a standing U.S. Peace Keeping Corp. which will fall directly under the command of the United Nations."

Congressman Barney Frank excited about the new U.S. Peace Keeping Corp. Said Frank, "We in the Democratic Party will see to it that our new peace keeping force is armed with love and good will instead of assault riffles."

Republicans have already threatened to smash Democratic attempts to change the structure of the military. House Minority Leader, Dick Gephardt, blasted the Republican efforts to block this legislation and has accused the GOP of "using their oppressive majority to block meaningful changes in the military that would help bring lasting peace to our troubled world."
