Answers to questions posted to me from the Dell thread:

1. Is Dell interested in using added shares to acquire CPQ?
A: No Dell still continues to believe that acquisitions are not in Dell's interest.
2. Dell has facilities in many rented buildings: will the new building-in-progress mean that the rented buildings will not be needed and will there be a cost saving?
A: Right now Dell is doing all the building it can just to keep up with demand: the finance dept will decide (if it is someday possible) whether it would meet Dell's needs and be cost effective to move out of rented buildings.
3. Can you tell us anything about Dell's plans for e commerce?
A: ISP is coming soon: dell.net is already available in Europe: it is coming to the U.S. in 1-2 months: there will be an online auction eventually.
4. Why has Dell kept a low profile when stock was retreating over the past several weeks?
A: it is Delll's function to run the company to enhance shareholder value by making Dell the best it can be: not Dell's job to be concerned about stock price..stock price enhancement will happen as the company itself prospers. (See historical data which I will post in a few days.)
5. Why request increasing the number of shares?
A: The reason has not yet been specified, which is traditional for increasing shares. (This was accepted by shareholders at the meeting)
6. Why does Michael Dell choose to sell 4 million shares when the stock was not moving with the market well?
A. MD sells at regular internvals, which are planned regardless of stock price. A substantial percent of his and his family 's wealth is invested in Dell Computer Company.
7. Has Dell purchased 200-300 K 133 MHZ FSB motherboards (direct Rambus Dram) from Acer for September?
A: no comment.
8. What is happening in Tennessee, for Dell?
A.Negotiations are still on: eventually Dell will have a full facility . Tenn is an excellent location with 4 distribution centers within 200 miles plus the area wants the business.
9. How will the alliance between AOL and those saying they will give away computers w/o theneed for msft applications going to affect Dell going forward?
A: Nothing is free: when an isp offers "free" computers for a 3 year contract at a specified price, that computer's price is built into the deal. People who begin with cheap computers will be back within a year (often) to get a better computer that does more..hopefully to Dell.
