What's up with these market makers?

I was folowing the trades during the last fifteen minutes. Around 47 thousand shares traded, majority on the buy. MM moved from
4 3/4 -4 7/8 to 5 - 5 1/16. The volume then dwindled. 7000 shares came in on the sell and pushed the spread down to 4 7/8 to 5, this was at 3:53 pm. The next trade was for 500 on the buy at 3:58, giving us an uptick for the close. But sure enough, a hugh order to sell 100 whopping shares came in at 4:00 pm to close us on a down tick at
4 7/8. Why??????????????????????????????

During all of those trades, most of the buys were for over 1000 share. The majority of the sales were for 100 shares. Very interesting. Are the shorts trying to hang around?
