QWST/USW/ CLECs/ RBOCs: -
prediction: QWST will win USW, looks like FRO will go to GBLX, but all companies will intertwine. still think BLS will buy QWST down the road. Buy USW as way of getting QWST at a 15% discount. long term holds. QWST's buy of USW may well rank alongside WCOM's buying MCIC in the annal of telecom.
CLECS: nxlk, hypt, clec, icgx - all breaking out. there will be mega consolidation as the bigs buys the littles. SBC already is required to offer service in other areas as part of SBC/AIT deal - what better way then to buy existing clec. BTW, clec stands for Competitive Local Exchange Carrier, and there also is a stock with symbol CLEC.
BEL, SBC, both breaking out to new highs. these are the new behemoths, controlling huge chunks of telecom service. Will be offering broadband via dsl very soon. SBC just signed deal with Direct TV. As attractive as T/ATHM looked, BEL, SBC with DSL looking more attractive to me right now. AOL will probably sneak in there and partner with them, already has contracts, good thing that it does, because RBOCs don't really need AOL.
Internet Access- everyone's offering it. AOL, IPCS like MSPG, ELNK, BEL, SBC, GTE, ATHM, Roadrunner, HSAC - dell gonna offer it. buy an internet service get a free puter. Its the next war. i'm betting on the rboc's that already control access to the home via existing phone lines. and aol. and t and athm. ggg
