LNG Potential in China through Gas-to-Power, Concludes Battelle Study; Soft LNG Market Offers Opportunities

Because domestic gas reserves are remote from the major markets of China, and because the country has not yet developed large-scale fields, Battelle Memorial Institute expected that the international market may become an important source of natural gas supply – through LNG shipments and pipelines – for some regions.

According to Battelle Memorial Institute's study “China's Electric Power Options: An Analysis of Economic and Environmental Costs,” prepared for the W. Alton Jones Foundation, the southern and eastern coastal regions in particular could become heavily reliant upon LNG for an energy source.
