Chidambaram,

They use a somewhat different modulation, called Discrete Wavelet MultiTone (DWMT). Rupert Baines, who is marketing director for ADI, has discussed this in one of the Amati threads.

Orckit Communications (Israel) has DMT products, as does Westell, but neither has sought a license from Amati. I suspect only a slight variation in the mathematical logs enables them to avoid this.

In other words, the patent means nothing. The idea that AMTX has locked up the xDSL market with their "patent" is one of the misconceptions that is driving Amati's stock price so high.

The other misconception is that the RBOCs will be compelled to adopt Amati's DMT because it is the standard chosen by ANSI 3 years ago. This also is untrue. The telcos will adopt the most cost-effective technology, and a de facto standard will emerge.
