hey pw, because i know you have norton systemworks, i'm going to share with you my method of defragging using speed disk. here is the clickstream: after selecting 'speed disk' and 'continue', there is an initial scan and then a recommendation dialog appears saying something along the lines of: "98% of drive C: is not fragmented". i then make sure 'full optimization' is selected, and also check 'optimize swap file'. but then, DON'T click 'start'. click 'cancel'. the recommendation dialog disappears and then i click the 'properties' button, then 'options'. in the 'options' dialog you'll notice there are now some optimization settings in place from previous selections. make sure 'wipe free space' is checked under security options, and click 'OK'. then click 'start'. :) mark
