A portable information company that is catching Wall Street's eye, and whose
shares have been on a tear recently, is Research in Motion. The Canadian
wireless pager concern, which has been around since 1984, makes pagers
that receive e-mail messages. Its latest offering, called Blackberry, marries
Internet access to a pager-sized device. People who know a thing or two
about tech gadgets, such as Bill Gates and Michael Dell, are known to use the
product, and it's the sort of thing that might represent the next wave in
chip-reliant computer hardware, says Steve Milunovich, head of technology
research at Merrill Lynch.

"The market for wireless technology products isn't totally there yet, but this is
as good as I've seen," Milunovich says.
