Re: house. Our agent called us yesterday, and told us that the owner accepted our contract modification, and agreed to do everything on the list, except give us receipts for work that isn't covered by a warranty. His wife is out of town and she is supposed to be back tomorrow and will sign off on it. The most troubling thing, the garage, he says he will take care of, by pulling permits Monday, and he will have it all done 7/22/99. Chris and I went by there today, and the air conditioner is working, and the contractors are going around fixing broken tiles and broken windows and broken fans and stuff like that. I asked the contractor did he know that the window between the garage and house is a firewall, and the bedroom windows that look into the garage will have to be fireproofed? In fact, the code says that "openings from a garage directly into a room used for sleeping purposes shall not be permitted." So those rooms have to be closed off, I am not sure how, whether they need to be bricked over, or just have sheetrock over them or what. And the contractor acted very surprised. He didn't think they even needed an inspector, because they were just enclosing an existing space. *Sigh.* Amateurs.
I am going to go out there again, with a camera, and take pictures of the garage-in-progress, especially the windows, and get them developed, and take them to the county permit office myself, Monday, and ask what needs to be done. If those guys can get it all done and up to snuff by Thursday, they are going to have to bring in extra help, and bribe someone at the county, IMHO. |
